Ivory Transport & CITES Agreement
By Bruce Grimes

Four years ago we attempted to emigrate to Canada, to beautiful,
semi-tropical Victoria. We finally gave up because of the "ivory
problem". What was the last straw was a cream-puff Hamburg Steinway,
circa 1918, not a player, that arrived here in the States with the
keyboard burned off. Customs had taken a blow torch to it. When the
new owner protested, they were told "you're lucky we didn't burn the
whole damn thing."

We would have made excellent Canadian citizens, but we have four
Duo-Art pianos and we could not re-open our business there because of
the danger of having a US customer with a $50,000 antique instrument
having it vandalized at the border.
