Working Conditions at Player Piano Factories
By Dave Bowers

In North Tonawanda, N.Y., Farny Wurlitzer was very proud of the working
conditions there, past and present. The factory was large and roomy,
well lighted by windows, etc. He took me on a personal tour in the
early 1960s, and we stopped by various workstations in the making of
jukeboxes. He said that only women were employed in doing the wiring,
as they were more careful than men and paid better attention. I had
the chance to talk to quite a few people, and all were enthusiastic
about what they did.
