Duo-Art Roll Tracking Problem
By Andy Ott

Over the past two years of owning my Steinway Duo-Art, one of my
greatest joys is showing it off to visitors -- it is spectacular in
every way, visually and acoustically. However, I have a recurring
problem about which I'm hoping some of the brethren can offer some
advice.

Although it always plays new reproduction rolls very well (both
88-note and Duo-Art rolls), it sometimes has trouble with old rolls.
I have acquired quite a few original Duo-Art rolls over the years,
and most play well. However, sometimes the paper gets engaged on
the edge of the take-up spool, and disaster then occurs. I've tried
adjusting the tracking and watching it very closely, but once trouble
starts it usually continues until the roll is seriously damaged.

What am I doing wrong? What could I do to improve this? This weekend
I lost my "Aida" roll; it's time to address the problem and find the
solution.
