English Street Organ & Piano Repertoire
By Nick Nourse

I am a research student (Ph.D) at Bristol University working on popular
song in Britain and the Empire, 1800-1850 (may move to 1864). I am
currently working on street music and the 'barrel organ' and, whilst
the likes of Ord-Hume's works are great for technical information, I am
largely stumped on the question of what was actually played on these
instruments (especially Hicks/Distin or Taylor barrel piano/organs).
I have odd references from newspapers, and I've now gleaned a few titles
from your forum archive, but lengthy details seem nigh on impossible
to find.

Can anyone help by listing the tunes on a cylinder or roll, with dates
if at all possible? I am happy to see details going into the later
1800s, but the earlier the better.

Many thanks in advance.
