Street Organ Plans by Roy Norman
By Robert Leber

What do we all remember of Roy Norman and his famous "Systeme Gavioli"

Street Organ and his great set of plans built (parts of the organs were

popping up all over the country for years) from attempts at building it.

I remember seeing him at a MBSI convention in San Francisco and being

commissioned to build eventually three out of four which I built. I

ended up at another convention giving a slide projector presentation on

its stages of construction, and also at the Jensen's home being asked

to give a "show and tell" with tables of parts for the AMICA meeting as

their featured speaker had to cancel and would I take his place since

they had heard what I was doing.

I only saw Roy Norman once at the convention, and he was fairly old

back then (about 25 years ago). What an education that building from

his plans built into my life! What do other reading MMD recall of him

as I can't find much, though he must have sold quite a few sets of the

plans (on 8.5" x 14" paper).
