Robbie, I got a call from a dead guy today. Please let me explain.
[ Rich wondered why he hadn't heard from the firm in Denver who
[ have been making his piano roll boxes for many years. I found
[ an obituary telling of the death of the owner, Eugene W. Rice,
[ and I suggested that Rich ask Jere DeBacker and Dick Kroeckel in
[ Denver to investigate for him. -- Robbie
Yesterday I telephoned Jere (who was out) and talked with Dick who
told me Jere was somewhere working on a piano and that is why he did
not answer when I called. Dick said he would look into it for me.
Today I was driving and I got a call from Jere and I told him I would
call him back after I stopped driving. About 20 minutes later I
answered my cell phone (recognizing the Denver area code) and said,
"Hi, Jere," but the voice on the line said "Hello, this is Gene Rice!"
I about had a heart attack! The voice continued, "Your guy is here and
he picked up all of your stuff."
This evening I looked up the obituary on the Internet. It seems that
Gene's father, Eugene Rice, passed away, not Gene. Gene is listed as
one of the surviving children along with his brother David (I have
talked with him in the past as well). So it seems that I almost had
a heart attack for nothing!
Gene told me the company has been sold and today was their last day of
business. The new owner will be able to continue making piano roll
boxes, and Gene will be there working on a consulting basis.
So, just to let everyone know, the new company is still going to be
called Rice Paper Box Co., but it will be in a different location and
operated by different people. They will still be able to make piano
roll boxes (or any size or style "set-up" boxes) in the future.
