Paillard Company of Switzerland
By Don Caine

Hi Lee, My understanding is that CP&C (Charles Paillard & Company) and
the maker of the Bolex Cameras and the Hermes Typewriters were one and
the same company.

Gilbert Bahl's book (written in 1993), "Music Boxes - The Collectors
Guide to Selecting, Restoring and Enjoying New and Vintage Music Boxes",
indicated that:

"Paillard, Charles, Sainte-Croix, Switzerland, c. 1850. One of the
largest family businesses to be involved in the making of music boxes
and was a dominant supplier in Europe. Paillard took over Thorens
(q.v.) after World War II, but was itself taken over by the Austrian
company Eumig. Paillard ceased manufacturing music boxes in 1894,
but still makes (sic) Bolex cine Cameras and Hermes typewriters."

Eumig, too seems to have gone out of business, or was taken over by
some other conglomerate, as I can find no recent reference to them.

Most sincerely,
Don Caine - Proprietor, The Music Box Repair Shop Unlimited
