I really enjoyed and appreciated reading John Rutoskey's posting on
the Violano-Virtuoso.  I think more than anyone else, Mr. Rutoskey gave
the best summary and his comments rang true, and were to the point.
The very first time I heard a Violano, I wasn't very fond of the music.
I was more interested in the mechanical parts rather than the musical
arrangements.

My first exposure to the Violano was in the collection of Doyle Lane
when he lived in Vancouver, B.C.  After feeding many quarters into the
instrument, I began to appreciate the music.  One has to have an open
mind before casting judgment.  Like anything else, you develop a taste
for something different.  When Doyle made an LP record of his entire
collection, the Violano sounded just as good as when I heard it in
person.

Getting back to John Rutoskey's comments, being an English teacher,
I particularly enjoyed his comments concerning the pronunciation of the
word "V i o l a n o".  I have heard both pronunciations, and I never
knew which was correct.  Thank you, John, for a very interesting article.
