Mills Violano Virtuoso Reflections
By George Wilder

I've had the opportunity to hear a number of the single Violanos,
some superbly restored and some pretty much original. Considering
the point in time these were made, the technology still astounds me.

Just like the nickelodeons and band organs, these weren't made for
the discerning musical ear -- they were meant to collect revenue,
produce music and entertain, all of which they did quite well.

There is a tremendous difference in the sound quality of a totally
restored Violano versus an un-restored or poorly restored instrument,
bordering from acceptable to "kill that cat and quit torturing it!"

All in all, it's a very unique look back in time at mechanical music
entertainment.
