Seek Welte-Mignon Rolls by Charles H. Steinway
By Bill Chapman

I am posting this for Ken Caswell, phone 1-512-323-0033. Ken became
aware of recordings made in 1913 in Freiburg by Charles H. Steinway,
the then-president of Steinway & Sons piano company.

If anyone is aware of Welte recordings made by Mr. Steinway, please
contact Ken. He is attempting to find all the rolls, which were
probably made for business purposes. If enough recordings can be
assembled then Ken will make a CD. The idea is to preserve the music
for historical references. He now has taped a few recordings of
Steinway's own compositions.

Bill Chapman - in La Quinta, California, with summer-like weather.

 [ At http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Herman_Steinway :
 [
[ "Since Steinway was one of the principal partners of M. Welte &
[ Söhne in the piano industry, in July 1913 Welte gave their
[ valued associate the opportunity to record and publish ten
[ of his own compositions in Freiburg for Welte-Mignon."
 [
[ This event might have coincided with an agreement to offer the
[ Welte-Mignon system in Steinway pianos.
 [
[ According to the Welte-Mignon rollography compiled by Charles
[ Davis Smith, all the songs were composed by Charles H. Steinway:
 [
[ 3014 Albumblaetter (Four Album Leaves) (also in Licensee format)
 [ 3008 Desir, Valse Lente
 [ 3013 English Dance, Lullaby
 [ 3012 Polka Mazurka, in A-flat
[ 3002 Die Spreekönigin (Queen of the Spree), Waltz
 [ 3010 Two-Step
 [ 3004 Valse Brilliante
 [ 3005 Valse Lente in E-flat
 [ 3007 Valse Lente in F
 [ 3009 Wiener Walzer
