Musical Boxes in the Old West
By Nancy Fratti

How music boxes often ended up in brothels is mystifying! The 1971
film, "McCabe & Mrs. Miller", with Warren Beatty and Julie Christie,
takes place in an "Old West mining town." Toward the end of the
movie you see Beatty dragging himself in the snow (I don't remember,
but I think he was shot and dying) towards Christie's brothel. You
can hear the sounds of a music box with bells playing. An inside
shot of the brothel then shows the 'girls' enjoying the sounds
supposedly emanating from a 15" Regina changer (changers didn't
have bells)!
