Cecilian Rolls
By Jim Warner

I have three rolls that I don't know anything about. They measure
about 1 1/2 in. in diameter, and the paper is 13 1/4 inches wide. They
are labeled "Cecilian" by the Farrand Organ Co., Detroit, Michigan.
The rolls are:

    No. 38, The Angels Serenade
    No. 98, Norwegian Bridal Procession
    No. 510, Slumber Song

Though the first wrap shows abuse (the boxes have breaks, and dirt got
inside), the rolls are in excellent shape. The boxes are fairly well
trashed. Any information would be appreciated.

[ Searching Cecilian in the MMD Subject Archives brings up a lot of
[ postings. In spite of their connection with the Farrand Organ Co.,
[ Cecilian rolls seem to be 65-note piano rolls of rather strange
[ makeup. Hal Davis' March 13, 2000, posting describes them thus:
[ "The 13-1/4" wide Cecilian rolls were not only wider than most
[ other 65-note rolls, but the scale was such that the spacing
[ between holes in the tracker bar was least in the middle and
[ increased outwardly toward both edges. Also, the holes themselves
[ were wider the farther they were from the center."
