Ivory Piano Keys
By David Evans

Terry Newberry wrote about the various types of elephant ivory.
Terry, or anyone, is there a way to tell which variety of ivory is used
on one's piano keys? We had this problem when shipping our collection
from UK to Canada, and had to complete CITES paperwork for the pianos.

I discovered that if there was more than one variety of ivory declared
then there was more than one fee to pay! I put them all down as African
ivory, which completely satisfied the authorities. The situation was
resolved many years ago now, but I was wondering how to tell, just for
interest's sake.

Regards to Terry, who did some amazing restoration work for us when we
were in the antique clock business in UK.
