Edge Damage on Piano Rolls
By Bruce Duncan

I bought a good quantity of archival paper tape to repair music rolls
after I felt chastised by MMD readers about using Scotch Magic Mending
Tape. I recently played a roll that I had carefully repaired in 1973
using the 3M (Magic Mending Tape) product and found it still perfect!

We've all seen rolls repaired with "clear" cellophane tape that turns
hard, brittle, and un-sticky. The 3M tape hasn't done that in 38 years
but still counting. In the meantime, I will continue with the archival
tape for the next owner of my roll collection and to avoid the censure
of my peers.
