Edge Damage on Piano Rolls
By Marc Goodman

My God -- roll edge tearing again! I have played rolls for over
40 years and almost _never_ tear a roll unless the paper (e.g.,
International rolls) are super brittle.

A little tape of any kind on the left spool, and the roll tamped down
on the right spool is the ticket. Just pull out the left spool a bit
and get rid of the brake on the take up spool (only good if you have
all re-cuts) and voila, no tearing.

By the way, I have rolls repaired with Magic Tape 40 years ago and all
is fine other then a little discoloration of the tape. It is regular
cellophane tape that dries out and falls off or becomes gummy.

Best,
