Transcribing Music Rolls for Archival Preservation
By Geoff Ward

I believe that the suggestion for preserving music rolls by continually
recutting them (for another 80 years) overlooks the fact that there are
just not enough resources in the world (read profit) to produce copies
of all available rolls. Sure, some popular rolls are being recut, but
there are 10s of thousands that will never be recut.

Digitising into MIDI files is the only solution for preservation of the
artistic content.
