Cleaning Gem Roller Organ Cobs
By William McKeown

Paul Wassmund wrote asking about cleaning roller organ cobs. I have
used a small wire brush (manual-type) to clean them up. My experience
is that there are many loose, bent or lost pins. Hard wire can be had
from Small Parts, Inc., and snipped to length. Grind the outside end
flat and insert to same height as original pins. A generous coat or
two of clear shellac will anchor the loose pins. (Use real shellac --
it's always reversible). This changes the appearance of the cob (adds
gloss), but makes them functional.
