Dear MMDers,  I know little about tuning a piano.  However,  I am
astonished to read in recent postings that, as a means of setting the
pins, each note should be struck very hard, even with a hammer or a
karate chop.  Is there any risk of breaking the key or any other part
of the action?

I have noticed on my pianola that a key has been broken at some time
and the two pieces glued back together.  My keys each have two or three
holes containing lead weights to the rear of the pivot pin (is this
common?)  and this would seem to be a weak spot if the key was stressed
too much.  Any comments please?
