Since I tune pianos both ways [with and without a tuning aid], I can
tell you that with an Accutuner 3 or more modern one, you can measure
the stretch in a piano, and then proceed to tune from the bottom up,
one note at a time.  I have yet to tune the keyboardless piano in our
Wurlitzer theatre organ, but it seems to me that this would be the most
time saving way to achieve a good tuning.

The final test of any tuning is aural; how one achieves that good
tuning really is immaterial -- by ear or by machine, as long as the
results are harmonic and stable.  This is not the same thing as
comparing an electronic musical instrument to an acoustical musical
instrument!  (Big grin here!)

While we are on the subject, I am _very_ open to any suggestions for
tuning this keyless piano.  Surely Wurlitzer considered tuning when
they created the piano?
