Ernesto Lecuona Compositions on Piano Rolls
By Jean-Pierre Jouandet

Hi, I recently acquired an 88-note roll, composed and edited by Lecuona,
entitled "Tengo una guajira" (guaracha). I forget if this roll (brand
"Lecuona") was made in Spain or Cuba.

Various compositions of Lecuona were published on 88-note rolls at QRS,
played by J. Lawrence Cook. Others may be found in Spain or in Latin
America. For instance, a Peruvian brand (Play o Tone) published:

 - "Damisela encantadora" (waltz)
 - "Siboney" (rumba)

Another "Spanish roll" similar to Lecuona's "Malagueña" is Joaquin
Larregla's "Viva Navarra" (jota). Various Spanish brands (Victoria,
Diana, Poch) published "Viva Navarra" on piano rolls. These two themes
are played by several pianists on YouTube. Examples:

  Viva Navarra : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahMT6VlWxYE
  Malagueña : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4Ii-RZDj2c
