Seaside Heights Casino Pier Carousel Organ
By Paul Manganaro

I moved to Pennsylvania twenty five years ago after having been born
and raised in New Jersey. I've spent my summer vacations every year
at the Jersey shore. Last year I walked the Seaside Heights boardwalk
a couple of times.

There are two carousels on the boardwalk. One is fiberglass, which
replaced the original Illions carousel after it sold, I'm guessing
thirty years ago. I haven't seen photos of that area. The other
carousel is located at the base of the pier that was devastated by
hurricane Sandy. See

This photo shows the damaged pier with the roller coaster sitting in
the ocean. The building with the red spires [at far right] houses the
carousel and organ. It may have been flooded but the building appears
to be intact. The circular roof of the carousel can be seen clearly in
this photo.

It's difficult to see so many of the photos of the Jersey shore. I've
haunted that area for decades. Most of the photos of familiar areas
are unrecognizable. I'll be visiting Seaside Heights in the spring and
will report what I find.
