Repairing Storm Damaged Automata at Coney Island
By Bill Maguire

I am a Long Island player piano technician and I have had to look at
_way too many_ storm damaged instruments to see if they are salvageable.
An AMICA "Lady Liberty chapter project" Knabe Ampico A for the owner of
Sweet and Low got destroyed not far from Coney island. This storm was
a major setback but, thank goodness, a large part of Coney Island was
zoned recreational and they are having these treasures restored.

The AMICA Lady Liberty Chapter has had two band organ rallies at Coney
Island which were a "huge hit" with the locals. Bob Yorburg and two
others brought large band organs. A guy from Lynchburg, Virginia,
brought his barrel organ and a trained Capuchin monkey dressed as a
"Southern Belle." We also had many other player pianos, organs,
miscellaneous instruments and circus performers put on shows. It was
so much fun. Hope to do it again after Coney Island recovers.
