I used to manage an apartment building.  When tenants moved out and we
had a bug problem, I used "The Fumigator" by Raid.  If you've ever seen
them tent a building for termites, this is the same stuff.  You remove
all the plants and pets for 3 hours and use one of these canisters in
each room.  If it breaths... it's dead.  Unlike foggers, there's no
residue.
