Sanding Warped Spool Flanges
By Dale F. Rowe

[ Ref. Adam Aceto in 130611 MMDigest, Seek Spools & Flanges for
 [ Welte Licensee Rolls --

Dear Adam, Greetings from Upstate New York. In regards to your
dilemma, have you considered sanding the offending bulges off of your
flanges? Perhaps you could construct a jig to hold the flange edge
at a right angle to a disk sander, then lightly sand just the inside
edge of the flange level. Be careful not to press too hard and cause
the flange material to melt and load the disk abrasive.

The left flange should be the easiest to do, as it can be removed from
the spool, while the right flange maybe problematic. You might have
to un-spool the roll entirely to access the right flange for treatment.
Hopefully this will solve your problem.

Sincerely,

D. F. Rowe
