Replacing Lead Tubing at the Tracker Bar
By Wade Newton

Good ideas on removing the lead tubing are being mentioned here.
Now, how about a good, current source for obtaining the proper size
replacement rubber tubing? I'm guessing it's 9/64" ID, but what about
the OD since space is a major factor?

Way back in the early 1970s I re-tubed an Ampico A drawer using the
9/64" tubing (if I remember correctly) from Player Piano Co. that was
available at that time. I like using 5/32" tubing, but I'm sure that's
way too big for replacing the lead tubing.

Where can one get 5/32" tubing nowadays, anyway? It can be used for
the rest of the drawer and for everything else. I noticed that it's
not in the Schaff catalog anymore.

I'm in the process of doing a second restoration on my Ampico A grand
after 30 years since the first restoration. It's still got the lead
tubing in the drawer and it probably should be replaced this time
around.

I know Organ Supplies Industries (OSI) sells rubber tubing, but it's
somewhat expensive.

While we're on the subject of tubing sources, I'm looking for a source
of 3/16" tubing for my Cremona nickelodeon that runs between the stack
and tracker bar. The 3/16" tubing from Schaff doesn't fit tight on the
nipples (at least on the stack nipples where I tried some). I'm looking
at spending a bundle for 11/64" tubing from OSI if I can't find another
source for it. I am trying to convince myself that spending a dollar
a foot for tracker bar tubing for a nickelodeon or even a reproducer is
worth the expense. I'm still not convinced yet.

[ Long, long ago I used yellow-green vinyl tubing 'cause I could afford
[ it. A few years later it became so gummy that I had to replace it.
