MDF Versus Plywood
By John A. Tuttle

Hi All, A customer posed a question to me that I don't feel totally
qualified to answer. Specifically, he asked me if MDF (Medium-Density
Fiberboard) is better than plywood for a reservoir that he needs to
rebuild. The reservoir is made out of 3/4" plywood, and he's
considering making the new one out of 5/8" MDF.

Although I've never used MDF in a player piano (I believe in 'replicating
the original'), I have encountered the product and found that in some
ways it's 'more demanding' or 'less forgiving' than plywood.

What are your opinions?

Musically,
John A Tuttle
