Replacing "Perflex" Pouches in Universal Players
By Robert Loeffler

Over the years I have re-pouched plenty sets of pouches in Universal
Pianos. Actually, just noticed the option wasn't on my new site.
I will reiterate what I have said plenty times before. You cannot
just purchase zephyr skin these days and cut pouches right from the
raw material. The pouches will not have enough flex and will not seat
or flex properly, as Mr. Maguire's experience.

When using zephyr skin for pouches you need to take the skin in your
hands and crumble it up in a small ball as if your crumbling a piece
of paper to throw in the trash, unfold it and repeat. I do this about
three times. Smooth it out on a table, _then_ punch out your pouches.
This is the main process that people forget and when the pouch doesn't
work properly, people blame the zephyr and in fact it's just the
process that was taken.

Neatsfoot oil is definitely not to be used on zephyr skin and if so
pouches need to be replaced with new. As for that matter I wouldn't
recommend using neatsfoot oil on _any_ pouches. Happy restoring!

Seasons greetings to all,
