News of the Carousel and Band Organ World
By Matthew Caulfield

I hear that Ed Openshaw is offering his B.A.B. perforator for sale.
He seems to be downsizing after selling his Wurlitzer 165 band organ
(ex-Ross Davis) to Glenn Thomas.

Also, Westchester County, New York, will be turning over operation of
Rye Playland amusement park to a yet-to-be-announced contractor. As of
October 31, 2015, all current park employees and management will be
terminated.

As a sign of the times, many amusement parks are dumbing down their
carousel operation, slowing the ride down and using canned music. This
includes the Rye Playland carousel and its Derby Racer. The carousels
at Lake Compounce, Idlewild, and Dorney Park no longer use their
organs.

Other New York City area carousels have been slowed down for safety
reasons, making them kiddie rides, not thrill rides. These include
Jane's Carousel, the B & B Carousell, and the Forest Park carousel.
