Music Box Comb Doesn't Match the Cylinder
By Cristian Dragomir

Hello, I bought this one-tune (Thorens?) cylinder music mechanism,
part of a jewelry box, and I found that the right last comb tooth is
on the other side of the end of the pinned cylinder. The mechanism
was working, kind of sluggishly, and it sounded off tune. (Of course,
the cylinder-comb alignment was shifted by two teeth.)

My first impression is that somehow the cylinder had shifted left,
but the right brass nut on the cylinder was tight. Also, if I try
to shift the cylinder to the right by at least a tooth width, it will
disengage from the spring gear.

So then, it looks that the previous owner replaced the initial comb
with a new one from another mechanism which obviously does not fit
(see the second picture). I was thinking if I plugged the existent
mounting holes for the comb and drill new ones, maybe, maybe I will
get it working. Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Cristian Dragomir
