Seek Custom Player Roll of "Alaska's Flag" Song
By John A. Tuttle

Hi All, Just when you think you've heard it all, something new
always comes along. A guy in Alaska contacted me about having a
player roll cut for a machine he's making. You can see one of his
inventions at http://www.ballswillroll.com/

He's making another 'rolling ball structure' and has decided to
use parts from a player piano that he salvaged. Get this: he has
"everything" except the cabinet, which the owner wanted back for
some reason. So, here's his request (I'll quote him):

"I want to play the Alaska Flag Song as this new machine has some
Trans Alaska Pipeline in it and I want to keep an Alaskan theme
going. I believe the melody has ten, maybe eleven notes. I would
string as many wires as I need and generally shrink the width of
the main vacuum bar (I forget it's name, the piece the paper slides
across) down to ten or so notes."

I found a MIDI file of the song and was able to reduce the number of
notes to nine and still maintain the integrity of the melody. He would
like the tune to play continuously for perhaps a few repetitions every
hour or so. So, he asked about a looped roll that could be started and
stopped as desired.

The burning question is, would any of you roll cutters be interested in
such a project? If so, please contact me and I'll put you in touch
with the gentleman.

I've attached a copy of the MIDI file.

Musically,
John A Tuttle
