Rebuilding a Pratt Read Wind Motor
By Terry Kirwin

I have been working on a Seybold player with a Pratt Read motor,
model F (I believe), six points with three slides. All parts seem
original except the bottom half of each motor pneumatic (replaced
wood), i.e., the side that is glued to the motor body, 3-1/2 inch
by 3 inch by 1/4 inch, covering width 2-5/8 inch.

A cover panel is screwed to the top and bottom pneumatics by two
screws at each end of the panel, pivoting over a centre wood hinge;
this is higher than the pneumatics. On this hinge point a hole has
been drilled that appears to be too large, 1/4 inch in the cover
panel to a smaller hole in the hinge as though it is for a guide pin
rather than a screw. This has not been used as now two small screws
have been fitted to the panel and hinge.

With this panel fitted, as the top opens and the bottom closes a gap
between the pneumatics and the panel near the hinge is, when closed,
5/32 inch and when opened 10/32 inch. This is causing the panel
screws to work out. What am I missing?
