Average Time to Rebuild a Player Piano
By Steve Marx

I feel that I have opened Pandora's box; nevertheless, I will continue.
The time needed that I was talking about is for the player action
_only_. Of course you have the piano action to repair but that is
another story. And yes, six days is enough to do a player action with
all gaskets changed. Anybody that is not changing gaskets is not doing
the job.

Yes, I do have everything at hand: tosh, motor cloth, bellows cloth.
I also make the Amphion transmission frame which I sold to England and
the customers have said they are very good and they continue to order
as they need them.

Alas I do put in 10-hour days. Agreed, it isn't a race -- it is being
more efficient. (I don't believe in sleeping on the job.)

Of course, as players get older there is glue fatigue. Simplex is
notorious for this; they are a wonderful player and Amphion bellows
are the same. Schultz I will keep my opinion to myself in fear of
upsetting some people.

Pneumatics -- I have a jig for Simplex pneumatics, a different jig for
Otto Higel metal pneumatics and one for the Standard style pneumatics.
For all this I have not sacrificed quality.

And I work only on pedal players. I have no interest in reproducing
pianos. On that too I will keep my opinion to myself.

I thought it was time for me to express my view, and with my experience
I think I may have a valid point.
