I have a number of MIDI-operated instruments, e.g., bottle organ,
harpsichord, marimba, etc.  I thought it might be fun and interesting
and go retro or backwards and have a music roll mechanism playing
these instruments.

I know over the years there have been a number of things that would
do exactly this -- a pneumatic player, an electronic tracker bar using
fiber optics and photo diodes, and a video camera scanning a roll in
live time.  To my knowledge there is no system available that I can
simply purchase.

I do not want to spent my remaining years researching designing and
building such a device.  Any suggestions?
