"Vintage" Player Rolls and "Nickelodeon" Parts
By Luke Myers

It amazes me when I see the huge amount of music rolls for sale
on eBay called "vintage" and "antique". Most persons out there
are completely clueless as to what the current value of a roll is.
I saw one single Duo-Art roll selling just the other day for $80 --
I kid you not! This is ridiculously silly. And of course, nobody
can afford the "great bargain," a set of 100 rolls for $475, priced
down from $520.

I've also seen a number of normal, non-nickelodeon parts, from
everyday player pianos, selling as "band organ/nickelodeon" parts.
One listing is for an "Antique Vintage Player Piano Band Organ Roll
Frame Spool-box."

New player rolls are not antiques. "Antique" has come to be the
"make it priceless" buzz word among those who have just plain junk,
but would be heartbroken to part with it.
