Restoring Steger Natural Player Action
By Luke Myers

I would like to know your opinions on whether I should have the
original Steger action for my piano restored, or use it for "parts."
I'm leaning toward the latter, as I spent goodness knows how many
hours in trying to get it to work. The pump for it is good. I had
replaced the cloth and flap valves, etc., in it.

The stack is what really annoys me. The way the pneumatics are
attached was a _very_ bad design, as in screw-in and not glued on.
By the time I had unscrewed all 88 pneumatics (and then re-screwed
them) from and to the decks about ten times, those screw holes wouldn't
even hold tight. In addition, there were other things that irritated
me a lot.

I think there's a time when I have to say, "Enough's enough." I would
like to know everyone's viewpoint on whether it really is worth the
expense to get the system working once and for (almost) all.
