Dax King wrote asking about Steinway D players.  As far as I have been
told there were about 10 total original.  I'm fortunate to be friends
with one of the owners here in Colorado, Dick Kroeckel; see

I'm sure I don't have the story quite right, but the piano itself
had been gutted and was on a college campus in Wyoming or Montana.
Dick bought it sometime in the 1970s and in the 1980s he worked with
Art Reblitz to construct a new stack from parts and restored it to
playing ability.  It's working great as of today.
