Virtual Player Piano
By Al Good

This may be old news to a lot of you, but for me I just discovered a
delightful way to enjoy the old player piano. I have an 86-pipe crank
organ that plays on a MIDI platform and I love it. Wallace Venable
provided me with some music scanned from Wurlitzer fairground organs
that really made the organ shine at its best.

I have a 88-key piano keyboard with MIDI and was thinking, "What if
I could get MIDI files of authentic player piano rolls that I could
play through my keyboard." So I contacted Bill Klinger in Arkansas
and he advised me that he makes a MIDI player that handles that fine.
So I got the MIDI player today along with a couple of sample SD cards,
and my keyboard plays like a player piano.

My reason for posting this is that we live in a small cottage at a
retirement community with very limited space. Our two carousel crank
organs are in our entry hallway and our orchestrion is living with a
friend at his place. There's no space here for a real piano of any
kind. And now we can enjoy some of the music that I played when we
had a player piano.
