In the 12/05/17 digest, Vince Wukmir asked about a 1931 Starck upright
that used both Standard and Simplex components, and whether one company
had purchased the other.  I can't speak to that particular situation,
but over the years have noticed a number of pianos that used orphaned
parts.

I briefly owned a 1930 Stuyvesant (Aeolian) upright that left the
factory with an Aeolian stack and a Simplex foot bellows.  My guess is
that Simplex went out of business first, and surviving companies picked
up some of the leftovers without actually assuming control of the
company and trademarks.  A search of the on-line archives of the Music
