Mechanical Music in the Movies: "Flitterin'"
By Richard Rames

Rowland Lee asked about the piano roll of "Flitterin'" in the
movie "Summer Magic." Yes, there was a commercial roll of that song.
I bought that roll as a birthday present for my best childhood friend,
after I'd moved away in 1967. We used to play piano rolls at her
house.

When I moved to the "big city" of Minneapolis, my mother took me to
a player piano business when it was time to get a birthday present.
This friend still has the roll (and the terrible piano they had), at
her summer "camp" in upstate New York, where I visit each summer.
I think the roll might have been one of the Aeolian ones that were
still being made then. I don't think it's QRS, anyway. I'll check
this summer.
