Making Wurlitzer Band Organs Play Caliola Rolls
By Matthew Caulfield

My posting to the 19.10.26 MMD on the above topic received excellent
off-line replies from four band organ and mechanical music people who
are known for their expertise and knowledge of the field: Glenn Thomas,
Fred Dahlinger, Jr., Dana Johnson, and Arthur Reblitz. Their replies
to me initiated a further exchange of emails and discussion that are
worthy of a permanent, illustrated print record.

Even Durward Center, who did the re-conversion of the Glen Echo band
organ back from Caliola rolls to its original Style 165 rolls, did not
know why Glen Echo Park ever did have the organ converted by Wurlitzer
to play Caliola rolls in the first place.

The answers will be revealed in the March-April issue of the "AMICA
Bulletin" (v. 57, no. 2), which will carry the full story. That issue
is due to be released and in the hands of AMICA members around February
20, 2020.
