Moving Aid For A Player Grand Piano
By Philip Jamison

In reply to Ed Chaban [200202 MMDigest]: I do not use the lyre to tilt
grands. In fact, I use a "Piano Horse" which is a great all-round
grand piano tilter. I was lucky enough to purchase one from Jansen
before they disappeared (its creator, a Texas piano mover, passed away).

I did see the lyre-brace method used when I visited the PianoDisc
company, but they moved mostly new Asian grands. Having said that,
I see many piano movers who use the "lyre tilt" method with no bracing
whatever. Try it at your own risk!

The home-made tilter described earlier looks nice. I have also see them
made with plywood. It's important to get the geometry right, however.
Do an Internet search under "grand piano tilter" and you'll see some.
