I need to replace the spring of a late 19th-century Paillard 50-note
musical box movement. Having measured the spring drum and arbor
diameters (19.3 mm and 6.4 mm), thickness 0.28 mm and width 9 mm,
I ordered a new spring from Meadows and Passmore, reduced it to
465 mm length and fitted it. The result is the whole winding system
is far too stiff. Advice most welcome.
