Malone's Music Co. of Turlock, California
By Ed Chaban

I have fond memories of Jeanne and her son, John Malone. I was put in
touch with them by Doug Henderson; the Malones cut the titles for his
Artcraft label. At the encouragement of Gary Sage, I approached John
who agreed to recut some Ampico and Duo-Art titles from his Play-Rite
masters as well as do some 1-1 copies of rolls Gary and I provided.
John had stopped making reproducing rolls for Play-Rite inventory some
years earlier. QRS had also stopped recutting reproducing rolls.

I did this under the "Patriot Piano Roll Company" label. I ran the
operation out of my garage. My model was cut-to-order where I provided
a list of titles and asked customers to "vote" on which titles they
wanted. If there was enough demand to justify making a production run,
we'd do it. This was all pre-internet via snail mail.

Jeanne was well into her 80s but operated the perforators. She would
cut 15 to 20 copies of each title. There were a few titles where we
did two production runs, but not many. All told I think we recut
perhaps 30 titles and shipped several hundred rolls.

I made several trips to the Malone "Castle" to pick up the rolls.
Jeanne and John were always a joy to work with.
