Cutting Leather Valve Pouches
By Spencer Chase

Dave Krall asked about custom punches for pouch leather [200930 MMD].
With modern electrical discharge machining (EDM) techniques, custom
punches have become more affordable but are still very expensive.

Punching the simple round holes can be done with stock tubular punches
from Pace Punches ( https://pacepunches.com/ ) They also sell custom
dies but I have not checked their prices.

If you only need one set of these pouches, it might be more cost-
effective to have them cut by laser or water jet. I would guess that
for water jet cutting the leather would need to be temporarily bonded
to a carrier and released after cutting. Laser cutting should work
quite well as it is used to engrave and cut wood with great success.
The leather being so thin, one of the really cheap diode laser
engravers might be powerful enough, but they are generally not
recommended for serious cutting.
