In his clever (I couldn't do it!) identification [201003 MMD] of
"The Holy City" on that small Mermod box, Jochen Schäfer describes
the ballad as 'American'.

It was composed by Stephen Adams, nom-de-plume of the baritone
Michael Maybrick, an Englishman (born in Liverpool), and the words
were by Fred Weatherley, another Englishman!
