Seek Leather Glue
By Jim Quashnock

Thanks to all who replied to my question about Barge Cement [210306 MMDigest].
Unfortunately, I did not word my question very well. I was well aware of other
sources for this product, like Amazon and eBay. My real question was that with
the lack of this product in my town, was there a suitable substitute, i.e.,
Gorilla Glue, Goop, Weldwood, etc.

Meanwhile, I have ordered in several tubes of Barge from Amazon. My intended use of
this cement might have also been misunderstood. As Art Reblitz pointed out in his
reply, using hot hide glue only for leather to wood, or for that matter anywhere
future restoration will occur, is important. I too have spent many hours removing
old Elmer's glue!

My use was strictly to splice leather together as in making drive belts or making
longer lengths, and gluing to stiffeners which will never be used again. These are
permanent bonds never intended to be separated.
