Well! More roll repair stories! I have written many times that the
_best_ thing to do is, after you tap all the paper over to the right
spool and tighten a bit, pull out the left spool flange (if you can)
and leave a gap between it and the paper. Tape around that flange hub
if it does not want to stay out.

In 50 years of playing rolls I almost never have a roll getting torn,
even with brittle paper. I have the "fish pole" string tracker with
little ears, and think it is the best, unless the roll has very bad
edges.

Also, I have used Scotch Magic Tape for 50 years with no problems,
except on a few rolls the tape has yellowed slightly but never shrunk
like regular Scotch tape. I still use it.

I also use reel-to-reel magnetic repair tape. It is very thin and
works very good on Duo-Art rolls in the expression part.

Played with care, and a slow rewind and the lower [take-up] spool
brake not on, rolls will last for a long time.
