Mini-Componium Built at Museum Speelklok
By Uwe Gernert

Dear All, As I stated in my post on 12/19/22 we had a profound article
in our Journal about the Mini-Componium built by Martin Paris of Museum
Speelklok, The Netherlands. There now is a short video about the "making
of" available at YouTube that I wish to bring to your attention:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_wIR9J3N-k

The video comes with English subtitles so you really are able to follow
the process of building that instrument. You also may have a glimpse of
the original Componium the ingenious Diederich Nicolaus Winkel created
in 1821.

Musical regards,
Uwe Gernert - Editor, Das Mechanische Musikinstrument

[ From the English subtitles --
[ "I'm building a Componium the way Winkel could have made it... It
[ has two cylinders that spin at the same time. The bottom cylinder
[ has all the even bars [measures], and the top are all the odd bars.
[ So the organ alternates between the top and the bottom cylinder ...
[ And it's totally random; you cannot predict what it will do. He
[ created a kind of roulette system for it that works perfectly. ...
[ We're building this replica because we know too little to restore
 [ the original." -- Robbie
