Player Piano Pedals Squeak and Clunk
By Lee Rothrock

The player piano squeaks and clunks when I play it, but so far I've
been squirting it with de-squeaker to get by. Here's what I'm planning
-- has anyone done this already?

There's a hardware item called a 'rod end' that probably wasn't
available when most player pianos were made. It's a bearing in
a housing with a threaded shaft connection.

I'm supposing I can just take off the rods between the pedals and
the bellows for a 'quick' upgrade replacement, presuming of course
I'll need to make custom brackets. I would love to hear from anyone
who can think of possible pitfalls to such a plan!

The other thing being considered is a way to drive it with a crank
as in the old street pianos; the mechanics shouldn't be difficult.
Has anyone out there done this?

It can be frustrating to try and teach a newbie how to push the pedals
-- they think it's like riding a bike and don't stop pushing before
the "clunk!"
