Recuts of National Automatic piano rolls are now available! Note:
These rolls work only on National Automatic [coin-operated] pianos.
They will not work on a regular player piano because they are wider
(12 inches wide) and have different hole spacing (6 holes per inch).
Please pass this message along to anyone that you know who owns
a National Automatic coin-operated piano.
I just finished recutting 27 National Automatic piano rolls. I chose
a mixture to see what people like, including fox trots, waltzes, blues,
a couple of Christmas rolls and some Mexican rolls (that are actually
really fun) and a march roll or two.
- The recuts are punch-for-punch exact copies of the original rolls.
- They are on high quality nickelodeon roll paper.
- They align perfectly on the tracker bar (unlike recuts from the
1970s and '80s).
- They come in a premium alligator-texture box with a custom made label.
- The rolls are stamped with the tune number and title just like the
originals.
- The rolls are stored on a cardboard tube to help hold their shape.
- Rolls come with title strips for the tune selection panel.
My perforator can do 6 to 8 copies at a time. I am keeping one copy
for myself. Another collector wants a copy of every single roll I make.
So that brings it down to just 4 to 6 copies of each tune that are
available.
Many of these rolls will only be recut once. Given the cost of
restoring the perforator, supplies, and time required in recutting
rolls, the price is $30 each, but I will give discounts to those who
have loaned me rolls for scanning and those who purchase a lot of rolls.
The rolls are for sale on my website:

I plan to do more Christmas rolls so people can have a set of at least
8 rolls for the holidays. I also plan on doing some ragtime rolls that
will be converted from other formats. Given the years the National
Automatic piano was popular, there are not many rag rolls, but I will
change that.
I am also planning on doing a set of fun and spooky Halloween rolls,
also converted from other formats. I will also be doing a "Test and
Tuning Roll" at some point.
I will soon have over 400 original National Automatic titles that I can
recut, so if these initial 27 titles sell I will recut many more tunes.
If they don't sell then there isn't much point in doing more, so please
buy them! I hope to recut about 200 or so rolls in total.
I also have nice reproduction National Automatic metal spools available
for sale. It is nice to have more than just one set. A couple of
collectors have already purchased multiple sets of spools.
If you have a National Automatic piano that is not currently working,
but you plan to restore in the future, _now_ is the time to get rolls
for it. My perforator is the only perforator that can do these 12" wide
rolls and I may never do them again (especially if no one buys them).
Let me know if you have any questions.
